Al-Farabi Kazakh National University

Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU) is Kazakhstan’s flagship institution of higher education and one of the leading universities in Central Asia. Founded in 1934, it is named after Abu Nasr al-Farabi, a renowned medieval philosopher and scholar of Turkic origin. The university is located in Almaty, Kazakhstan’s largest city and cultural capital, on a campus spanning over 100 hectares known as “Kazgugrad.” In the QS World University Rankings 2026, KazNU holds position #166 globally, remaining the highest-ranked university in Kazakhstan and securing 38th place in the QS Asia University Rankings 2026 — the only Central Asian university in the Asian top 40. By a Government decree dated July 25, 2022, KazNU was granted the official status of a research university. The university serves a diverse community of over 25,000 students from more than 50 countries across 16 faculties, 64 research centers, and maintains partnerships with over 400 universities worldwide. KazNU is a member of the International Association of Universities, the European Society for Engineering Education, and was the first Central Asian university to join the UN Academic Impact (UNAI) program, serving as the Global Hub on Sustainability. Its mission is to strengthen the potential of highly qualified, competitive specialists through innovative teaching methods and the integration of education, science, and business.
