Yessenov University, officially the Caspian University of Technology and Engineering named after Sh. Yessenov, is the flagship higher education institution of the Mangystau Region and the leading technical university on the Kazakhstani coast of the Caspian Sea. Founded in 1976 as a branch of the Kazakh Polytechnic Institute to train engineers for the Mangystau industrial complex, it has since grown into a modern, fully accredited university offering programs across engineering, IT, business, law, education, philology, tourism, and maritime studies. The university hosts around 7,400 students across roughly 150 educational programs at bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels, with instruction available in Kazakh, Russian, and English. It has strong ties to the oil, gas, and maritime industries of the Caspian region, around 150 corporate partners, and over 110 partner universities worldwide. Yessenov University is home to the unique Maritime Academy, a Military Department, the German-Kazakh Institute of Sustainable Engineering Sciences, and Yessenov College. It is ranked in the QS World University Rankings 2026 band 1201–1400.
