Atyrau Oil and Gas University

Atyrau University of Oil and Gas named after Safi Utebayev (AOGU) is the only specialized state university in the field of oil and gas in Kazakhstan. Founded in 1959 as an educational center of the All-Union Correspondence Polytechnic Institute in the city of Guryev (now Atyrau), it has evolved into a leading industrial branch university serving the energy sector of Kazakhstan. The university currently offers bachelor’s, master’s, MBA, and doctoral programs across four faculties and one institute. With approximately 7,000–8,000 students, it is ranked among the top 1,401–1,500 universities in Asia (QS Asian University Rankings 2026). AOGU is accredited by the Independent Agency for Quality Assurance in Education (IQAA) and recognized by the Ministry of Education and Science of Kazakhstan. The university integrates dual education, industrial internships, and applied research into its curriculum. It operates an industrial training ground developed with the support of KazMunayGas and EmbaMunayGas, and serves as the Ministry of Energy’s first Center for Sectoral Technological Competencies. AOGU also hosts the AI HUB Artificial Intelligence Center and actively engages in international partnerships with universities from China, Poland, Indonesia, Turkey, and other countries.
